Luanda – Angola’s Council of Ministers on Wednesday in Luanda analyzed the Draft Law on Anti-Doping in Sport, which aims to adjust it to the Constitution, and to the convention and the international code on the matter.
According to the press release of the First Extraordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the Bill, to be sent to the National Assembly, must still conform to the national social, cultural and sporting reality.
With the approval of the Act, the note reads, the Executive intends to continue to promote the cultural and moral education of citizens, the protection of the health of athletes, support staff and other sports agents, through the fight against the use of prohibited substances and methods.
In turn, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, explained to the press that the Law in force, 12/22, which establishes the legal regime for the fight against doping in sport, is not in conformity with the Constitution and the World Anti-Doping Code.
She added that it is intended to improve the mechanisms for the detection of doping substances and methods and the threats to sporting fair play.
Palmira Barbosa said that although there is no integrated system in the country to combat the use of doping substances, the creation of the Angolan anti-doping authority is in an embryonic stage.
She stated that Angola is committed to the creation of effective mechanisms to combat the consumption of banned substances in sport, the preservation of sporting truth and the health of sportspeople. JFS/VIC/DOJ
