Menongue - At least 613,909 square metres were cleared of mines and other explosive devices between January and June this year in Cuando Cubango province, compared to 990,005 in the same period in 2021.
These are areas cleared in the municipalities of Manongue, Cuito Cuanavale and Mavinga, where a total of 477 anti-personnel mines and 393 anti-tank mines were removed and destroyed, which hindered the circulation of people and goods in the respective localities in Cuando Cubango province.
Speaking to the press Wednesday, the representative of the National Agency for Mine Action (ANAM) in Cuando Cubango, Marcial Cativa, said that during the first six months of the year 1,315 explosive devices and 5,478 rounds of ammunition had been destroyed.
According to the official, already in 2021, with a cleared area of 990,005 square meters, about 1,449 anti-personnel mines, 514 anti-tank mines, 2,591 explosive devices and 2,882 diverse ammunition were removed and destroyed in the municipalities of Menongue, Cuito Cuanavale, Mavinga and Cuchi.
