Luanda - More than two hundred civic activists demonstrated at Largo 1º de Maio, in Luanda, on Saturday to demand more transparency and strictness in the fight against corruption.
The protesters demanded the Angolan Government to hold, essentially the managers, accountable for the wealth amassed through illegal means.
According to Laura Macedo, co-organiser of the demonstration, the purpose of the protest was to claim the way the Government has been pursuing the capital repatriation process in the country.
They accused the State of recovering only the assets from the frozen companies", a fact that "requires other approaches"
The participants encouraged the Executive to create material conditions to ensure the functioning of the Courts of Appeal, reiterating the importance of reinforcement and transparency in the fight against corruption.
The participants also demanded the rapid institutionalisation of local authorities in Angola, whose legislative package is being concluded by the National Assembly.
On the other hand, the activists called for the need to reinforce investments in the industrial sector, in order to provide more jobs for youth, as well as to reduce the current cost of living.
This was the second protest organised by civil society in November, after the march held on 11th, thwarted by the National Police.
