Luanda - The People's Republic of China has expressed in Luanda its willingness to support Angola's efforts to play a more prominent role in international and regional affairs, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Angola, Chen Feng has said.
The Chinese diplomat made the statement during the 74th anniversary of the Proclamation of the People's Republic of China marked on September 26, stressing that China appreciates Angola's active mediation in regional issues.
Chen Feng said China is willing to strengthen coordination on multilateral issues with Angola, with the aim to jointly safeguard genuine multilateralism, legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and contribute to building a community of a shared future for humanity.
"Thanks to the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, they have deepened their mutual political trust and traditional friendship," Feng said.
Early on January 12 during the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, President Xi Jinping and President João Lourenço exchanged congratulatory messages, pointing the way to the development of the two countries' strategic partnership.
Chen Feng stressed that China appreciated Angola's adherence to the one-China principle and its support for legitimate Chinese claims.
The Chinese diplomat added that his country will always support Angola's determination to oppose foreign interference, to independently choose a development path adapted to its own national conditions and to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.
Chen Feng recalled that China is Angola's biggest trading partner, the main source of direct investment and the main partner in building infrastructure, while Angola is China's third largest trading partner in Africa and has been one of the most important crude oil suppliers for many years.
This year, Feng said, the largest China-Angola cooperation projects have made positive progress, and the two countries' cooperation in terms of investment has made progress becoming increasingly diversified.
Relations between the two countries have been marked by political and commercial cooperation and exchanges in culture, education, media and youth and women’s organizations. CS/VIC/AMP
