Benguela – The Angolan Armed Forces (FAA)’s Chief of Staff, Aviation General Altino dos Santos, on Wednesday reaffirmed, in Benguela Province, the focus on the modernisation of the Angolan Navy, to better face the situations that result from the current geopolitical world crisis.
He said that in the context of the ongoing restructuring and re-equipping process in the FAA, the Navy has gained important infrastructures, with highlight on the Naval Base of Soyo (Zaire Province) and the start of the construction of the Luanda Base.
The general officer was speaking at the central act of the celebration of the Angolan Navy foundation, marked on July 10, having stressed the need for the institution to be reinforced with means that are more appropriate for the present context.
He went on to explain that it is necessary to strengthen the co-operation with naval forces of the region, in the ambit of sea security moves. He mentioned illicit acts like piracy, terrorism, roberry and all types of traficking, among other crimes.
Altino dos Santos called the attention of the military to the risks associated with the utilisation of the sea, which demand awareness about contention and control of illegal immigration, the trafficking of human beings, organised transnational crime, cybercrimes and proliferation of weapons.
“I send my congratulations to all the military staffs that were promoted or appointed, I wish you good fortune and success in the new mission; that you may continue to be dedicated and resilient”, concluded the general.
The Angolan Navy was created on July 19, 1976. Its evolution has been reflected in the successive organic structures and management systems that it has been incorporating.
