Luanda – President João Lourenço met Thursday in Luanda with the president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe (CEAST), José Manuel Imbamba, to discuss about issues related to the tasks of the Catholic Church, under the agreement between the government and the Holy See.
Speaking to the press after the audience, José Imbamba, explained that the meeting was part of the reinforcement and strengthening of relations with the Catholic Church, within the scope of the Framework Agreement that exists with the government.
“We reflected on those religious tendencies that tend to reverse social peace and harm the social peace of Angolan families,” the religious leader said, underlining that the meeting also discussed the program of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of National Independence to be marked on November 11, 2025.
The religious leader said that in addition to holding an ecumenical service on that date, the Catholic Church also intends to organize a meeting for reflection among Angolans.
José Manuel Imbamba was received by President João Lourenço, following consultations and talks he has held in recent days with the various religious congregations in the country.
Early on Tuesday, João Lourenço received in a joint audience the leaders of the United Methodist Churches of the East Angola Annual Conference, Gaspar João Domingos, the Evangelical Alliance of Angola, Alexandre Saul, and the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola, Luciano Chaneque.
The leaders of the Synodal Evangelical Church of Angola, Dinis Marcolino Eurico, the Reformed Evangelical Church of Angola, Alberto Daniel, JOSAFAT, Gerson Pimentel, and the Free Baptist Church in Angola, Nsumbu Luyindula were also received by the president.AFL/VIC/TED/AMP
