Luanda- Angolan president João Lourenço on Thursday in Luanda highlighted the importance of the country’s participation in the Olympic Games to be held in France and called for good performance from the athletes at the event.
Speaking at the ceremony to award the National Flag for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games attended by national athletes and leaders of the Angolan Olympic Committee, the president praised Angolan athletes for the fact that over the years they have achieved satisfactory results in various international competitions.
João Lourenço congratulated all those who contributed to overcome the constraints that existed for Angola's participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
"We are all to be congratulated on the fact that we managed to remove the constraint that allowed our country to be represented at this great international sporting event," the president said.
The Angolan statesman highlighted the "very difficult" moment in which the Olympic Games are taking place, referring to the proliferation of intense armed conflicts, which in some way jeopardize peace and universal security.
"While some are waging war, you are taking part in these games to convey a message against war, because sport promotes friendship and concord between peoples and nations," Lourenço said.
After the awarding of the National Flag for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, President João Lourenço, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, held talks with the athletes and members of the Angolan Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, outside the Presidential Palace.
The national team for the Paris Olympics is represented in athletics, handball, judo, swimming, canoeing, rowing and sailing, with 25 athletes.
