Luanda - The Estonia's President of the Republic, Alar Karis, arrived in Luanda on Thursday, for a 48-hour official visit to Angola, at the invitation of the head of state, João Lourenço, as part of strengthening cooperative ties between the two countries.
At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, Alar Karis, accompanied by the Estonian First Lady, Sirje Karis, received welcome greetings from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, among other individuals present.
The work agenda foresees, among other topics, a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, a visit to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, where he will lay a wreath in the sarcophagus in honor of the Founder of the Nation, as well as participation of the executive seminar on Digital Government, promoted by the Institute for Administrative Modernization (IMA).
Cooperation
Angola and Estonia established bilateral cooperation relations in 1991, after the dismemberment of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), in the year in which this European country proclaimed its independence.
Approximately eight days ago, Angolan ambassador Manuel Chaves presented his letters of credentials to the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, in Tallin.
After accreditation, Manuel Chaves was received by the President's advisor for Foreign Policy, Celia Kuningas, with whom he discussed issues linked to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Angola and Estonia, especially in the areas of Administrative Digitalization, Education, Health and Agriculture.
The two countries signed, in April last year, in the city of Tallin, a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce bilateral cooperation in the field of digital governance and administrative modernization.
Estonia is a small Baltic country with a population of just 1.3 million. Despite its modest dimensions, it is often cited as an example of leadership in digital governance.
