Luanda - Luanda's new International Airport is expected to open by the end of this year (2023) President João Lourenço told press in Luanda on Saturday at the end of his visit to the infrastructure.
João Lourenço added that he received information from the contractors, ensuring that "the work is underway and, in due time, we will have good news."
In March this year, the Head of State said that the new airport would be inaugurated in December 2023.
"I can confirm that there has been progress and we maintain the date for its inauguration," the President said after he received detailed information about the final stretch ongoing work.
The new airport received, in June 2022, the first experimental flight of a Boeing 777 aircraft of Angola Airways (TAAG).
The new Luanda International Airport is named after Dr. António Agostinho Neto, the first president of Angola.
The airport, sized to receive, among others, type B747 and A380 aircraft, is located in Bom Jesus, 45 km from Luanda downtown. It has an area of 1,324 hectares and it is expected to receive about 15 million passengers and 50 thousand tons of goods per year.
The complete work of the new airport is budgeted at $1,4 billion and it’s carried out by Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) from China mainland. AFL/SC/ADR/DOJ
