Luanda - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on Monday in the municipality of Dande, Bengo Province, stressed the need to adjust fuel prices to combat smuggling.

Speaking to the press after the inauguration of the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal (TOBD), Lourenço said that in addition to police measures, it was essential to "certainly adjust fuel prices to real prices".

The president said that fuel smuggling is a "sad reality" and that despite all that has been done, "maybe it's not enough".

"We will continue this fight until we manage to eradicate once and for all this great evil that has harmed our economy," Lourenço said.

The president recalled that the price of fuel in Angola is much lower than the real price, both in terms of production and imports, since the country currently, without much local refining capacity, still imports a large part of the diesel and gasoline it consumes.

"We import at one price and sell at a lower price than the import, in other words, the country loses money. We buy at ten and sell at six," Lourenço complained.

The president added that this is a situation that, once resolved, will certainly discourage all those evildoers involved in fuel smuggling.DC/PA/ART/TED/AMP
