Luanda - The Angolan president, João Lourenço, congratulated, through a message, Gustavo Petro, for his recent election as President of the Republic of Colombia.
According to a note issued by the Press Secretary of the President of the Republic, the Angolan leader said that "the Colombian people, by electing you as the highest magistrate of the Republic of Colombia, made an option - we believe - for a new political model".
In this sense, he expressed his belief that "programmes will be developed that will boost a new dynamic in the national economy and, consequently, the resolution of its social and other problems, which will favour inclusion and a significant improvement in the general living conditions of Colombians".
He also said he hoped that during the mandate of President Gustavo Petro, Angola and Colombia would be able to take substantial steps to intensify and extend the already existing cooperation between the two countries.
