Luanda - The funeral ceremony of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, to be held on Sunday (28 August), in the Republic Square, in Luanda, is open to the public.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-ministerial Funeral Commission, the public should arrive at the place at 8 am due to security procedures.
Foreign personalities are in Luanda to attend the funeral service of the former Angolan Head of State, such as José Maria Pereira Neves, President of Cabo Verde, Carlos Vila Nova, President of Sao Tome and Principe, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, Filipe Nyusi, President of Mozambique.
Other entities are Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of Congo, Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, President of Guinea-Bissau, and Jorge Lopes Bom Jesus, Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe.
José Eduardo dos Santos died on July 8 in a hospital in Barcelona City (Spain), where he had been hospitalised since 23 June of the current year, after a cardiac arrest.
The former President of the Republic took office in September 1979, following the death of António Agostinho Neto, the first President of Angola, and was in office for 38 years, until he was succeeded by João Lourenço in 2017.
