Luanda - The National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on Wednesday received the ambassadors of China and Norway, with the Asian ambassador discussing the strengthening of cooperation in regional and international matters, while with the Nordic ambassador the politician discussed the exchange of experience in the parliamentary field.
Speaking at the end of the audience, the Chinese ambassador, Zhang Bin, said the two countries would strengthen cooperation and dialogue on regional and international issues, as part of joint efforts to defend peace and security and promote regional development.
The diplomat said there is also a desire to strengthen high-level exchanges between the two parliamentary institutions and cooperation between the specialized committees and friendship groups of the National Assembly and the People's Assembly of China.
Zhang Bin said the meeting reviewed the materialization of the consensus reached during President João Lourenço's state visit to the People's Republic of China.
He also conveyed the greetings of the President of the Standing Committee of the People's Assembly of China, Zhao Leji, to the president of the NA, Carolina Cerqueira.
On January 12, 1983, China and Angola established diplomatic relations, opening a new chapter in the history of the traditional friendship between the two countries.
Cooperation between Angola and Norway
The Norwegian ambassador to Angola, Bjornar Dahl Hotvedt, who also took the opportunity to congratulate the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) organized in Luanda in October 2023.
The diplomat also expressed the need to intensify the exchange of experience between delegations from the parliaments of the two countries and the creation of friendship groups.
As regard to bilateral cooperation, the diplomat said an Angolan embassy in Norway is expected to be opened in the near future, adding that his country is interested to continue to strengthen cooperation in the commercial sector, specifically in the oil sector, and in attracting Norwegian companies to Angola to invest in other sectors.
Bilateral cooperation between the two countries has taken shape mainly in the political-diplomatic and economic and commercial fields.
On the political front, the two countries are linked by 45 years of diplomatic relations dating back to the independence achieved on November 11, 1975, which made Norway one of the first countries in the West to recognize Angola's national sovereignty. FMA/SC/ADR/DAN/AMP
