Menongue – An unidentified group of citizens on Friday, in south-eastern Cuando Cubango Province, prevented a caravan from the UNITA parliamentary group from reaching the chief district of Cuito Cuanavale municipality for a political event.
The action took place in the commune of Longa, 100 kilometres east of the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, and involved alleged acts of vandalism against vehicles and physical attacks that resulted in eight wounded members of Angola's largest opposition party.
The delegation of the parliamentary group of UNITA is since Thursday developing a working visit to the province of Cuando Cubango, having already visited Dumbo location, 45 kilometers off Menongue City, the province’s seat.
There, next to the party's provincial office, the group of MPs met with party activists and had a meeting with civil society members.
