Luanda - The provisional results of the autopsy on the body of former Angolan President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, held Saturday by the medical team of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia (IMLCFC), Spain, excludes any possibility of poisoning as the cause of death.
The information was revealed Monday to the state-owned media outlets Jornal de Angola and TV Zimbo station in Barcelona city by the Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pita Gróz, who is part of the Angolan delegation that travelled to Spain to deal with the process of the transfer of the former president’s body to Angola.
The autopsy request was made by one of his daughters, Tchize dos Santos, after the clinical staff confirmed her father’s death.
José Eduardo dos Santos - who died at the age of 79 last Friday in Spain, victim of an illness - came to power in September 1979, following the death of the first Angolan President, António Agostinho Neto.
Former President Dos Santos was in office for 38 years, until September 2017, when he was succeeded by the current Head of State, João Lourenço.
He led the process which ended with the signing of the Peace Agreement on 04 April 2022, following the death of the UNITA founding leader Jonas Savimbi.
