Lubango - The vice-president of the 4th Commission of the National Assembly (AN) for State Administration and Local Government, Paulo de Carvalho, said Monday, in Lubango, that there are conditions in most municipalities to implement local government.
The Commission has already visited the provinces of Bengo, Cunene and Luanda, and is now in Huíla and Uíge, with the mission of visiting four municipalities in the province.
The head of the parliamentary delegation, who has been in Huíla since Friday , said at the end of a meeting with the provincial government that if there are to be local elections, it doesn't necessarily have to do with local conditions, but with how the National Assembly will decide how they will be implemented, either gradually or simultaneously.
"That hasn't been decided yet, the decision will be made in due course. But my expectation, as a citizen, is that there will be local elections and I believe that the sooner the conditions are met, the better," the MP said.
In terms of the State Budget, Paulo de Carvalho said that the lack of information on what the municipalities and provinces need is making it difficult, which is why there is the need for greater interaction with the Ministry of Territorial Administration as well as verification to resolve problems and seek solutions.
"In order to represent the citizen in a dignified manner, we need to maintain contact and that doesn't mean maintaining working relations with the authorities, but with the citizen, above all. We've already visited the Lubango jail and we want to visit the market, talk to motorbike taxi drivers, taxi drivers and other citizens to gauge their difficulties and what they expect from the government," he said.
The visit by members of the 4th Committee of the National Assembly to Huíla runs until Thursday and will extend to the municipalities of Chibia, Chipindo, Lubango and Quipungo.
During the visits, the group is meeting with the municipal administrations to present the actions developed in the 2023 State Budget. After the meetings, visits will be made to administrative, social and business infrastructures in the municipality. EM/MS/TED/AMP
