Kavango West (Namibia) – The representative of Namibia’s Kavango West Region, Donior Mughumbaji, highlighted on Wednesday Angola's role in achieving independence for his country.
Donior Mughumbaji made this recognition when speaking at the closing of the cross-border meeting between the provinces of Cuando-Cubango (Angola) and Kavango West and Kavango East (Namibia), as part of the fight against malaria that took place between the 15th and 17th of July.
"Historically, Angola is known by Namibia as a brotherly country in the context of the struggle and achievement of independence", he highlighted, adding that his country will continue to thank Angola for the prompt support provided.
Regarding the meeting, he said that the platform has served as a barometer to measure relations between the two countries and reinforce cooperation in the health sector, sharing experience, good practices and challenges.
He stated that the discussed strategy, which ranges from strengthening the surveillance system to improving the health system and promoting knowledge within communities, reflects a rapprochement between the parties.
Therefore, he advocated that the meetings should continue to increase the length of the two governments' superior structures in health promotion, in an effective engagement to control diseases that put communities at risk.
In his speech, the deputy-Consul of Angola in the Republic of Namibia, Frederico António, praised the event and made it known that the two countries signed several memorandums of understanding aimed at the population's well-being.
He highlighted that diseases that affect populations along the common border represent a challenge for the authorities on both countries, as diseases have no borders and do not recognize social stratum, so everyone can become sick.
He stated that the Angolan Consulate in Rundo is an extension of the Angolan Administration in Namibia, with the aim of providing assistance to citizens with the collaboration and support of local authorities.
