Luanda - Political parties and coalition of political parties Thursday staged mass rallies and door-to-door voter mobilisation, ahead of the general elections on 24 August .
UNITA
In Luanda, UNITA held a press conference during which it expressed its determination and commitment to do its best for the smoothness and fairness of the electoral process.
UNITA's national secretary for electoral affairs, Faustino Mumbica, called on Angolans to actively engage in the general elections by voting massively and remaining vigilant and orderly.
UNITA electoral campaign coordinator for the south Liberty Chiyaka, said in Huila province that Angola needs a new leadership more committed to the welfare of the people, effective values of integrity, national reconciliation and peace.
Chiyaka, who was speaking during a mass rally to mobilise people to vote, said that the core message of his party is the alternation of power, a positive, orderly and peaceful change.
PRS
In Lunda Sul, PRS provincial secretary Eugénio Sacupumbo reiterated the party’s call on citizens with voting age, saying that each should know the venue where he/she will cast ballot on 24 August.
MPLA
In Cuanza Norte, MPLA's candidate for President of the Republic, João Lourenço, announced plans to build, in the next five years, ring roads in the provinces of Kwanza Norte, Malanje, Benguela and Kwanza Sul.
In Cuando Cubango, the first secretary José Martins announced the expansion of the Kwenda programme to the municipality of Rivungo as of September.
CNE
The spokeswoman for the Bié provincial electoral commission, Uraca Sanches, said that 17.029 delegates from the political parties contesting the general elections on 24 August had registered.
Speaking to the press, Uraca Sanches said of this number, 11,936 are permanent and 5,936 are substitutes.
Uraca Sanches said the institution had set the goal of 23,872 delegates, but due to the failure of some political parties in recruiting enough staff, it did not reach the expected number.
