São Tomé - Angolan head of State João Lourenço arrived Sunday morning in São Tomé and Príncipe to attend the XIV Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
During the Summit, the Angolan Statesman will hand over the organisation’s two-year term rotating chair to his counterpart of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova.
Angolan Head of State is expected to address the event after the welcome speech to be delivered by the host, Carlos Vila Nova.
João Lourenço will be distinguished with the José Aparecido de Oliveira Award, which honours personalities and institutions that stand out in defending and promoting the principles and values of the CPLP.
The distinction instituted in 2011 and biennial in nature.
The Summit's agenda also includes the presentation of "Priorities of the mandate of São Tomé and Príncipe for the period 2023-2025" and a political debate on "Youth and sustainability in the CPLP", with the latter being the theme of the mandate of São Tomé and Prince.
The event is also expected to debate the reappointment of the CPLP executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa.
The Summit of Heads of State and Government is the highest body of the CPLP and has the power to define and guide the organisation's general policy and strategies.
Founded on July 17, 1996, the organization includes Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor. JFS/AL/ADR/CF/NIC
