Nairobi - Angola’s Vice President Esperança da Costa has been in Nairobi, Kenya, since Sunday to represent the head of State João Lourenço at the first African Climate Summit and African Week of Climate on 4- 6 Sept.
Esperança da Costa was welcomed at the local Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by the Kenyan minister of Foreign Affairs and senior officials from both countries.
The event brings together Heads of State and Government, the African Union and the United Nations system, as well as civil society.
The first Africa Climate Summit, led by the President of Kenya William Ruto with the support of the AU, will address the growing exposure to climate change and the associated costs, at global and Africa level in particular.
African leaders are expected to seek to outline urgent measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The Summit is a platform aimed to inform, adequate and influence commitments, promises and results, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.
Under the motto, “Driving green growth and climate finance solutions for Africa and the world”, the Forum will also focus on showcasing innovative green growth and climate finance solutions in Africa and the world.
The forum is taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Center, where preparatory work is already taking place, bringing together technicians from several countries, including Angola. NE/AL/CF/NIC
