Luanda – Angola president João Lourenço returned Wednesday to the country after taking part in the Sustainability Week Forum held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Angolan Head of State was welcomed at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa.

The government officials, among others, also joined the delegation that received the Angolan president, who was accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço.

João Lourenço left Saturday for the UAE, where he met with his counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and analysed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

In addition to his participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2023, a forum dedicated to the environment, the president took part in the panel on Clean Energy in Africa, along with Zambian Head of State, Hakainde Hichilema.

Delivering his speech at the panel, João Lourenço reiterated Angola's commitment to use 77 percent of renewable energy by 2025. Currently the country produces 76 percent of its energy from environmentally friendly sources.

During the forum, the organisation presented the Zayed Sustainability Prize, with  the Angolan Head of State being one of those invited to hand over the award to the winner of one of the categories.

The Zayed Prize recognises the excellence of the pioneers of sustainability in the world and offers a platform to drive transformation in this segment.

On the sidelines of the ADSW 2023, the Angolan President met with the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, with whom he exchanged views on the political situation in that African country.
