Ondjiva - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, arrived on Friday afternoon in the city of Ondjiva, Angola’s southern Cunene province, where he will be working for three days.
Accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, the head of state was received at the 11 de Novembro Airport by the local governor, Gerdina Didalelwa, members of the provincial government and the Executive.
For today, on the work agenda of the President of the Republic, the inauguration of the new Cunene General Hospital 'General Simione Mucune', with a capacity of 220 beds, installed in an area of 60 thousand square meters, stands out.
The hospital began to be built to modern standards in May 2021, costing the state coffers 52 million Euros, including equipment.
On the second day of work in this province, João Lourenço will preside over the meeting of the Local Governance Council, the first this year.
On the third and last day, he will make a visit to the works of the Ndue dam.
This is the fifth visit of the he President of the Republic to the province of Cunene.
The President has already been to Cunene on four occasions (2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023), with emphasis on the year 2022, which marked a new era for populations devastated by severe drought, after the inauguration of the Cafu canal. LHE/ART/DOJ
