Cuito – Angolan president João Lourenço inaugurated Tuesday in Cuito, Bié province, the International University of Cuanza (UNIC), which starts operating this academic year (2021/2022).
On the occasion, the Head of State handed over the keys of five buses, with twenty-five seats each, for the transport of external students.
Built in 2020 on an area of 17 hectares, the institution hopes to become the first in the region to offer postgraduate courses.
The campus has six buildings, with 25 classrooms, areas for sports practice, auditorium, laboratories, restaurant and a boarding school for students.
The six buildings are named after tributaries of the Kwanza River, namely Cuquema, Luei, Cunje, Cunhinga, Mumbue and Cutato.
In a first phase, it will house 5,000 students in engineering, communication, human, health and education sciences. So far, 2, 200 students have been enrolled.
In the future, the campus will have a total of 14 buildings and an absorption capacity of 12,000 students in each academic year.
UNIC, the fifth higher education institution in Bié, is the result of a partnership between the Iberoamericana University Foundation and the European University of the Atlantic, which together constitute the Euroafrican University Foundation.
UNIC is dedicated to training staff at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, in various areas of knowledge.
The institution has the cooperation of the European University of the Atlantic, a higher education institution that maintains a level of quality and demands of European standards.
Enrolled students will obtain dual degrees, Angolan and Spanish, if they complete their studies at this university.
