Luanda - The President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, on Friday congratulated the MPLA and its President, Joao Lourenço on the electoral victory of last Augut 24.
The congratulatory message of the Chinese President, which expresses solidarity with the MPLA and João Lourenço, was handed over to the Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, by the China ambassador to Angola, Gong Tao, during an audience held today in Luanda.
According to the definitive results published by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and validated by the Constitutional Court, MPLA and its candidate João Lourenço, won the general elections with 51,17%, gaining 124 MPs for the National Assembly.
This was the fifth election in Angola since 1992.
In a press release from the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola, the Chinese ambassador seized the occasion with Téte António to analyze the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation in several domains and the need to exchange visits at a high level.
Angola is one of China's main business partners in Africa with a business volume that only in 2010 registered a total of USD 24.8 billion.
Ten years later, the value of trade with the Asian giant rose by 61.32%, corresponding to US$5.55 billion.
China is currently Angola´s biggest creditor, based on the various credit lines opened by the Chinese government, through state-owned banks.
