Luanda - MPLA leader João Lourenço has announced the party’s effort to increase the coffee production in order to create surplus for export and raise foreign exchange, if elected in 2022 elections.
The party leader made the pledge Saturday in northern Uige province during a mass gathering rally, as part of the campaign for the general elections on 24 August.
The head of MPLA´s list said that coffee was an important source of wealth for Angolan families and the country was one of the largest export ever of the product.
The politician said if Angola produce surplus coffee, it will resume its place as an exporter.
João Lourenço encouraged the residents of Uíge province to keep on investing in agriculture and livestock to produce sufficient food for domestic consumption and export.
“The intention is to become self-sufficient in food. We have food for ourselves and export so as we can generate resources, foreign exchange to invest in other sectors and industrialise our country,” said MPLA leader.
In his pledge, João Lourenço also announced plans to link the rest of the country to the neighbouring countries.
As example, he spoke of the plan for connecting the country, from Uige province, to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In his speech, the politician also referred to the increase to additional 500 homes for Kilomosso satellite city, currently with around 1,010 houses.
As part of his election campaign - 24 July - 22 August- João Lourenço has held similar activities in the provinces of Luanda, Kwanza Sul, Bié, Lunda Norte, Cunene, Cuando Cubango.
