Moçamedes – MPLA candidate for President of the Republic João Lourenço has announced plans for construction of the Baynes hydroelectric plant in Namibe, in partnership with the neighbouring Republic of Namibia.
He said that the construction of the Baynes dam in Cunene and that of Namibe, should be facilitated with the construction of the Moçamedes /Baynes road from scratch.
The MPLA leader announced so on Sunday (14) in the south-west Namibe province, while addressing a mass gathering, as part of the campaign for the general elections on 24 August this year.
João Lourenço, who is seeking the second term in office, also announced plans for construction of an energy transmission line between Lubango and Moçâmedes, to take electricity produced in the north of the country.
He said that his party plans to build an energy distribution station and drainage systems in the municipalities of Moçâmedes and Tômbwa.
He informed that the construction works of the reservoir of 10,000 cubic meters, in progress in Moçamedes, will be concluded in September.
The construction of the reservoir aims, among others, to reinforce the water supply to the municipalities of Bibala and Virei.
In addition to investment in infrastructure, João Lourenço pledged the commitment to training staff in the health sector, where 1,170 professionals have already been hired.
In the event, the MPLA President promised to build a hemodialysis treatment unit, attached to the recently rehabilitated Ngola Kimbanda hospital, and municipal hospitals in Tômbwa and Bibala.
He also spoke of the ongoing rehabilitation of the section of the river Equimina/Lucira/Bentiabada/National road 100, while works are being carried out on the Moçâmedes/Lubango road.
In his speech, he predicted plans to resume work on the Moçâmedes/Baía das Pipas, Bibala/Lola roads and the junction between road 100 and the municipality of Virei, to bring economic and social development to these localities.
