Luanda – Angolan citizens with expired identity cards are entitled to participate in the general elections, which are taking place this Wednesday, across the country.
The decision emerged from a meeting held by the plenary of National Electoral Commission (CNE) Wednesday (24) in Luanda.
At the meeting the CNE decided that the right to vote in this condition covers those citizens who await to get their documents, provided that they show the respective proof.
At a press conference (the second of the day) about the voting process, CNE spokesman Lucas Quilundo said that voters can also present a photocopy of their Identity Card for voting.
According to the official, the objective is to allow all citizens with active electoral capacity to participate in the 5th general elections in Angola.
Lucas Quilundo praised the process and said it is running smoothly with high voter turnout in the country.
He urged citizens to vote and return home after exercising their duty, in order to avoid crowding near polling stations.
At least 14.3 million voters are eligible to vote, of whom 22,560 reside abroad.
