Luanda -The Vice-President of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, Wednesday congratulated President João Lourenço for the MPLA´s victory in the 24 August elections.
On a message to which ANGOP had access, Dmitry Medvedev states that with the re-election of João Lourenço to the office of President of the Republic, the voting process shows the traditionally high degree of confidence that the Angolan society has placed on the MPLA.
“I am sure that his rich political experience and high professionalism will continue to contribute to the effective social and economic development of the state and its independent foreign policy”, Dmitry Medvedev wrote.
Dmitry Medvedev expressed openness to a further strengthening of inter-party friendship and dialogue, while stressing his conviction that “the Russian and Angolan friendly relations will be further enhanced, including in a cross-party format to which the interaction and cooperation agreement signed on 4 March 2021 makes a meaningful contribution.
According to the definitive results published by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), MPLA won with 51.17% corresponding to 209.429 votes, thus confirming the re-election of its candidate, João Lourenço and gaining 124 parliamentary seats
UNITA gained 43.95% (2.756.786 votes, winning 90 MPs), PRS 1,14% (71,351 votes, 2 MPs), FNLA 1,06% (66,337 votes, 2 MPs) and PHA with 1,02% (63,749 votes, 2 MPs).
CASA-CE with 0.76% (47,446 votes), APN with 0.48% (30,139 votes) and P-NJANGO with 0.42% (26,867 votes) did not get any MPs.
