political parties Luanda – The Council of Christian Churches of Angola (CICA), called on Monday, the political parties to adopt light speeches to drive harmony during the election campaign, with a view to the ballot on 24 August.

Talking to ANGOP in Luanda, the secretary-general of the Council of Christian Churches of Angola (CICA), reverend Deolinda Dorcas Teca appealed for respect for difference of opinions to avoid tough speeches and that the performance of each competitor take place on the basis of mutual respect for difference.

 

The reverend stressed the efforts of CICA towards electoral civic education of the citizens, as she considers that the country is “designed” through the vote.

 

The secretary-general of CICA considers that the church is in charge to inform, educate, instruct, sensitize and enlighten citizens about electoral processes. CICA was an observer in the 2012 elections and will play the same role again in this year´s election.

 

The 2022 elections, which will have the participation of Angolans in the diaspora for the first time, are the fifth ones in Angola´s history, after those of 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.

 

 Thus, roughly 14.399 million voters are expected to cast ballots, including 22,560 Angiolan citizens residing abroad.
