Malanje - The steps that the African continent has taken towards democratisation and sustainable development was discussed on Tuesday in the Province of Malanje by the deputy provincial governor for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, Franco Mufinda.
The deputy governor, who was speaking at the opening of the Africa Day celebrations, to be held on the 25th of this month, pointed to the intensification of inter-regional economic relations as a focus of attention among African statesmen, with a view to boosting the continent's productive sector.
He equally referred to the implementation of policies aimed at reducing hunger and poverty, with emphasis on industrialisation, migration to renewable energies and adherence to new technologies.
In turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Veloso Dala, said that the 25 May celebrations are aimed at exalting the continent and retrieving the identity traits of its peoples.
The event named “Pro-Africa”, runs until the 27th of this month and includes cultural and scientific activities, as well as reflection meetings with young people on Africa's challenges in the globalised world.
Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), on 25 May 1963.
