Luanda - The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, on Monday praised the performance of Angola's rotating presidency at the helm of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) during its 2021-2023 term.
Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the organisation in July 2021 and is expected to be replaced by Sao Tome and Principe in August.
António Costa praised the work carried out by Angola mainly during the Covid-19 pandemic, underlining that Angola's contribution to the CPLP "will surely be marked" by the strengthening of ties between member states.
The CPLP was set up on July 17, 1996 with the aim to establish political and diplomatic coordination between its members in terms of international relations by boosting their presence in international forums.
The organisation's objectives also include cooperation in areas such as education, health, science, technology, defence, maritime affairs, the economy, food safety, public administration and justice.
António Costa arrived Monday in Angola for a 48-hour official visit at the invitation of the Angolan President, João Lourenço.
