Nairobi – Angolan citizens can now travel to the Republic of Kenya without needing ordinary visas, the President of the east African country, William Ruto, announced on Saturday, in Nairobi.
William Ruto said so at a press conference, after signing eleven agreements intended to boost the bilateral co-operation with Angola, in the framework of President João Lourenço’s official visit to Kenya.
Mr Ruto explained that Kenya took a unilateral measure with a view to stimulating the increase of commercial exchanges with the southern African country.
He reminded that in the past four years the commercial exchanges moved from USD 60 million to USD 350 million, however, he stressed, it is necessary to promote free movement of people.
On his turn, Angolan President, João Lourenço, admitted that in the framework of the co-operation it is necessary to promote approximation among the peoples, with emphasis on the entrepreneurs, so the visa requirement has been a hindrance. So, he thanked Kenya for such position and pledged to do all he can for there to be reciprocity, having assured that soon the Angolan government will deal with this portfolio with a view to also signing the agreement.
Angola and Kenya signed on Saturday eleven bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, at a ceremony chaired by the Presidents of both countries.
These are agreements in the fields of health, maintenance and conservation of animal life, maritime transport, agriculture, tourism, geology and mining, petroleum, youth, diplomacy and capacity building in the field of public administration and information and communication technology.
