Luanda - Angola co-sponsored and voted, Friday, in favor of resolution “A/ES-10/L.30/, entitled: Admission of new members to the United Nations”.
The Resolution was approved by 143 votes in favor, nine against and 25 abstentions.
The vote took place during the resumption of the 10th Special Emergency Session of the General Assembly on “Israel’s Illegal Actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the Rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
The document essentially envisages expanding some of the rights and privileges of the State of Palestine, as a Permanent Observer State not a member of the United Nations, within the framework of its participation in the sessions and work of the General Assembly, international conferences, held under the auspices of the United Nations and other UN bodies.
According to the resolution, the State of Palestine meets the requirements to be admitted as a full member of the United Nations, under the terms of article 4 of the Charter.
According to the annex to the resolution, among the additional rights and privileges of the State of Palestine, the right to sit among the Member States in alphabetical order, to be included in the list of speakers on agenda items that are not Palestinian issues, stands out. and the Middle East and to make statements on behalf of a group including representatives of the main groups.
It also have the right to co-sponsor proposals and changes, including on behalf of a group.
On April 18, the Security Council did not adopt the State of Palestine's request for membership as a full member of the UN after the United States' veto. ART/DOJ
