Luanda – Angola recorded a total of 16,290 crimes of various kinds in the first quarter of this year, 2, 77 less than in the same period last year, the Minister of Interior, Eugénio César Laborinho said Monday.
Speaking at the opening of the Ministry of the Interior's Extended Consultative Council, the minister said there has been a reduction in violent crimes, namely homicides, sexual assaults, offences against physical integrity, robberies and kidnappings.
The minister added that despite the reduction in some types of crime, the country must redouble the fight against illegal extraction of strategic mineral resources, cybercrime, illegal fishing, damage and theft of public property, fuel smuggling, and illegal immigration, among others.
Eugenio Laborinho considered it essential to strengthen national border security, reduce crime rates and road accidents, as well as improve methods of combating economic and financial crime.
The minister underscored the need to discourage people to do their own justice, which have claimed human lives or caused disability to many citizens.
Eugénio Laborinho said that the commitment to the homeland requires the department to work hard and effectively, with rigor and discipline to continue to improve the mechanisms of action and contribute to the well-being of the population.
The Consultative Council's agenda includes debates on the public security situation and the draft laws on the disciplinary regime for National Police personnel, the decoration of personnel, the basis of the Criminal Investigation Services and the legal regime for foreign citizens.
