Luanda - Angolan head of State João Lourenço Friday told the members of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) that combined effort was need to face challenges posed by international events.

The Angolan Statesman made the appeal at the opening of the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the OACPS in Luanda.

João Lourenço said the organisation should not stay out of the actions that directly or indirectly affect some member countries.

In his speech, the president João Lourenço described the OACPS as a crucial political and diplomatic platform for bringing peoples and cultures closer together, and an "important actor" at the level of the global South.

He recalled the organisation's role in building a world of peace, understanding and harmony among peoples.

The president also underlined the relevance of the OACPS in strengthening relations and in the "mutually beneficial exchange" with the organisation's strategic partners.

He said that the international projection of the OACPS increases Angola's responsibility within the organisation.

João Lourenço, who was speaking at the opening session of the event,  scheduled to end today, praised the Republic of Kenya, "for good work" it had done while at the head of the organisation.

He highlighted the fact that the member states of the EU-ACP represent approximately one third of the world's nations, spread over three continents.
