Luanda - Angola's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Francisco José da Cruz, on Monday chaired the 11th emergency special session (resumption) of the UN General Assembly on the situation in Ukraine.
In the course of its work, the General Assembly adopted two resolutions related to ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Initially, a text proposed by Ukraine was analyzed, approved with 93 votes in favor, 18 against and 65 abstentions.
Another text from the United States, entitled 'Path to Peace', was the subject of two amendments from the European Union, both approved by the plenary.
Russia also proposed an amendment, which was rejected.
The draft resolution proposed by the US was adopted with 93 votes in favour, eight against and 73 abstentions.
The resolution calls for 'a swift end to the conflict and a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia'.
The resolution drafted by Ukraine, on the other hand, demands the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces and calls for respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
