Luanda - Angola chaired, on Thursday, the 1221st ordinary meeting of the Peace and Security Council (CPS) of the African Union (AU) dedicated to analyzing the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR).
At the opening ceremony, Angola's permanent representative to the AU, Miguel Bembe, considered the session, which took place in virtual format, as an opportunity to encourage the progress achieved in the peace and reconciliation process, mitigating the challenges that continue to affect the stability and well-being of the citizens of that country.
“We recognize the Government's efforts, with the support of international and regional partners, to implement the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation of the Central African Republic (APPR-RCA)”, declared the Angolan diplomat.
He said that the CPS remains engaged in monitoring, through appropriate mechanisms, progress in the political, humanitarian and economic domains, as well as the persistent challenges in reducing tensions related to transhumance and the criminal activities of armed militias.
He stressed that these events continually threaten the freedom of movement of people and goods, limiting the ability of humanitarian agencies to provide assistance to affected populations.
On behalf of the CPS, Ambassador Miguel Bembe welcomed the efforts of the President of the CAR, Faustin Archange Touadera, to consolidate institutional stability and pursue significant reforms under the country's new Constitution.
Finally, he called on other Council members to share good practices and experiences with the RCA, in order to ensure that its new National Development Plan (2024-2028) is implemented in an inclusive and sustainable way, to overcome economic challenges.
