Luanda - The president of the Group of Parliamentarian Women, Teresa da Silva Neto, will participate, from the 12th to the 14th of this month, in New York (USA), in the 68th Session of the UN-Women Commission on the Status of Women, under the motto “Gender-Sensitive Parliaments: Promoting Gender Equality to End Poverty”.
The Angolan parliamentarian plans, on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN-Women Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), to participate in a Parliamentary Forum organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), says a press release.
According to the program, the deputy will be one of the speakers in a Special Segment with the theme “Gender-Sensitive Budget: An instrument for reducing poverty”, and will focus on the example of Angola in efforts to identify, catalog and adapt good practices in the promotion of gender in national development plans and budgeting processes.
Teresa da Silva Neto will also participate in a forum with the theme “Equal Participation and Leadership for a More Peaceful World: Lessons Learned and the Path Forward”, and in the launch of the Women's Leadership Initiative under the motto “Promote Participation of Women in Politics and Decision-Making”.
The event will provide an opportunity to bring a parliamentary perspective to the CSW68 discussions, showcasing parliamentary involvement in formulating laws, policies and budgets that specifically address poverty with a gender perspective and ensure that public financing promotes women's empowerment and girls.
Participants will share observations and practices in the areas of poverty reduction, taxation, access to credit and resources for women.
The meeting will also serve to highlight the need to have gender-sensitive parliaments and to promote legislative environments that proactively address and rectify gender disparities.
Participants will exchange ideas with their peers and experts on how to deepen their work in all of these areas.
The program also includes approaches on “Equal participation and leadership for a more peaceful world” and “Women and Youth Empowering Democracy (WYDE): Promoting women's political participation and decision-making through norm change social, networking and global advocacy''.
