Luanda – Angola’s National Assembly (AN) Speaker Carolina Cerqueira attends as of Monday (24) the XI Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries in Lisbon, Portugal.
The two-day meeting aims to address issues related to the free movement of goods and services within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).
To attend the event, Carolina Cerqueira arrived Sunday in the Portuguese capital.
On Saturday night, before leaving Luanda, Carolina Cerqueira stated that the theme of the meeting follows the latest measures taken by member States in relation to the design of visas.
This is the Agreement on Mobility in the CPLP signed in July 2021, in Luanda. The document stipulates that all national citizens from member States can apply for a CPLP visa and residence permit.
Among other things, the agreement states that the "CPLP residence visa" and the "CPLP residence permit" can be granted to all nationals of the nine member States, holders of diplomatic, official, special and service as well as ordinary passports.
As for the XI Parliamentary Assembly, the AN Speaker hopes that it will be a fruitful meeting and that it will produce the expected results.
In addition to Angolan Speaker Carolina Cerqueira and the host Augusto Santos Silva, the event will gather Speakers of Parliaments of Cabo Verde Austelino Correia, Guinea-Bissau Cipriano Cassamá, São Tomé and Príncipe Delfim das Neves and East Timor Aniceto Lopes.
The Parliamentary Assembly is the body that brings together the representations of all the Parliaments of the member States, constituted on the basis of the respective electoral results of the legislative elections.
The CPLP Parliamentary Assembly was established by the XII Council of Ministers, which took place in November 2007 in Lisbon.
CPLP members are Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
