Luanda - The Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Altino dos Santos, participated this Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the extraordinary meeting of the Defence and Security Sub-committee of the SADC Troika plus the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The meeting analyzed the modalities for the deployment of the Peace and Security Mission (SAMIDRC) in DR Congo’s East, under the decision of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of SADC, held last May in Namibia.
The event discussed and approved the SADC position for the Defence Chiefs of Staff/Commanders Meeting of the Quadripartite Mechanism on Coordination and Harmonization of Peace Initiatives in the East of the DRC, to be held on Friday, at the headquarters of the African Union (AU).
SAMIDRC was created as a regional response to the deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation in the eastern part of the DR Congo.
Recently, the SADC Council of Ministers, in Luanda, showed solidarity with the DRC and assessed the review of the region's budget, with a view to pacifying the eastern region of that country.
