Addis Ababa - Angolan attended the conference on the Doha Programme of Action and Regional Consultation of the Least Developed Countries in Africa (LDCs) held between 17 and 18 January in Adidis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Angola was represented at the event, held under the auspices of the United Nations, by a delegation headed by the State Secretary for Commerce, Amadeu Leitão Nunes.

Held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the conference discussed topics such as economic integration in the African continent and the opportunities of digital trade for LDCs.

The Secretary of State met, on the sidelines of the event, with the interim Executive Secretary of the ECA, Mozambican António Pedro.

The two interlocutors analysed the issues related to Angola's integration in the programmes of this United Nations agency, based in the Ethiopian capital.

Thursday morning, Amadeu Nunes held meeting with a team from the Angolan diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa, led by Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz.

They discussed the state of relations between Angola and Ethiopia and the importance of increasing cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in April 2022, the Doha Programme of Action 2022-2031 is a new generation of renewed and strengthened commitments by LDCs and their development partners, based on the overarching goals of achieving a rapid, sustainable and inclusive recovery from the pandemic and building resilience against future shocks.

It provides for eradicating extreme poverty, strengthening labour markets, promoting the transition from informal to formal employment, enabling graduation into the LDC category and facilitating access to sustainable and innovative financing.
