Luanda – A delegation from the Angolan National Police is taking part in the International Conference of South Korea Police, to happen in Seoul from on 18-21 October, as part of World Expo2023.
The event, which aims to set the strategies related to a common future vision of the Korean Police with the use of high technologies, will be attended by several countries, among them the United States of America (USA), United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Singapore, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and France.
According to a note from the Angolan embassy in South Korea, the Angolan delegation is headed by the general commander of the National Police, Commissioner General Arnaldo Manuel Carlos.
The event also includes an exhibition of technological solutions used by police forces to prevent and maintain public safety, as well as to investigate crimes, particularly the more complex ones, such as cybercrime, money laundering, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and illicit bank transfers using computerised means.
As regards the bilateral view, the general commander of the Angolan Police on Tuesday met with his South Korean counterpart, Commissioner General Yoon Hee Keun, with whom he discussed issues related to police cooperation between the two bodies.
The Korean police have been training Angolan police officers who work in the National Police's electronic surveillance Command and Control Centre, which has 244 cameras set up in the first phase of the project to modernise Angolan public security.
The note states that the project, whose financing was guaranteed by the South Korean government through the Export-Import Bank of Korea, has a second phase scheduled for 2024, which will increase surveillance capacity with the installation of more than 1,400 cameras in Luanda Province.
The two counterparts also assessed the need to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two companies, with an emphasis on education, the exchange of information, the supply of technologies and equipment, as well as scientific research.
Commissioner General Arnaldo Carlos’ agenda also comprises meetings with the Export-Import Bank of Korea representatives in order to be aware of matters linked to the second phase of the public security modernisation project.
The project has been contributing to increase the National Police capacity regarding public security in Luanda, capital city of Angola, thus positively reducing crime.
Also on Tuesday, a meeting was held at the Angolan Embassy with the Chairman of the Multicultural Museum of South Korea, who was given an Angolan police uniform to display alongside others in this cultural centre in Seoul.
