Rio de Janeiro - The spokesperson for the State Department in Portuguese, Amanda Roberson, reaffirmed that relations between the United States and Angola do not depend on one administration or another in either country.
It's a constant relationship and it's only going to get deeper,’ the State Department official told the Angolan press in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on Tuesday, at the end of the 19th G20 Summit.
The statements followed the meeting, on the same day, between the presidents of Angola and the US, João Lourenço and Joe Biden, on the sidelines of the event and on the eve of the US statesman's visit to Angola.
‘The friendship between the United States of America and Angola is deep and is becoming more and more solid. We have many connections with companies from the private sectors of both countries,’ he emphasised.
He considered Biden's official trip to Angola to be ‘very important’ given that the President is working every day until the end of his term on all the priorities he has set.
The fact that he is planning to visit Angola is a sign that the country and Africa ‘are a very important priority,’ he said, emphasising the contact between the two presidents on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.
‘It's an important sign of our relationship with Angola. It's very important for the United States because it will be the first time that an American president visits Angola. It signals the importance of the partnership between Angola and the United States,’ she stressed.
The spokeswoman emphasised the joint work on issues such as national security, democracy and prosperity on the African continent and in the world.
For the US, Angola is a very important partner on the African continent. ‘We are working together on the Lobito Corridor project, which is a major investment for African economies,’ she said.
Regarding the project, he said that it presented an opportunity for the essential and important minerals that Angola has for green energy. ADR/ART/DAN/DOJ
