Luanda – Angolan Government sent more than 30 tonnes of various products to Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Saturday for humanitarian support and assistance to displaced populations, as a result of the armed conflict in the east of that country.

According to a press release which ANGOP had access Sunday, the aid is a response from the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, to the request from his DRC counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi, following the Mini-Summit for Peace and Security in the East Region of this country, held on 23 November in Luanda.

As a result of the Mini-Summit held in Luanda, the M23, an armed movement operating in East DRC, accepted, last Friday, the cease-fire decided at the meeting of the heads of State, in the Angolan capital.

In an official declaration, the leadership of the March 23 Movement, known as M23, declared that it "accepts the cease-fire under the terms recommended by the Heads of State" gathered at the Luanda Mini-Summit.

In its note, M23 requests a meeting with the African Union (AU) mediator and Angolan head of state, João Lourenço, and with the facilitator of the Community of East African States (EAC), Uhuru Kenyatta, former president of the Republic from Kenya.

The holder of the Angolan Executive Power, João Lourenço, is currently the Acting President of the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region and Mediator of the Peace and Security Process in the East Region of the DRC.
