Luanda - The deepening of bilateral cooperation between Angola and the United Kingdom was the focus of a telephone conversation on January 8th between the Angolan Foreign Minister, Téte António, and the UK Minister for African Affairs, Lord Collins Highbury.
According to a press release sent to ANGOP, the two diplomats discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, focusing on issues related to "political stability on the continent".
The recent visit of the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, to Angola and the situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were also discussed.
Relations
Relations between Angola and the United Kingdom are characterized by diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation.
Over the years, both countries have worked to strengthen their bilateral relations in several areas.
The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since Angola's independence in 1975.
Visits by high-ranking dignitaries from both countries have strengthened political and diplomatic relations, with a focus on mutual cooperation and dialogue.
Angola and the UK also cooperate on the economic front, mainly in the oil, gas, mining and financial sectors.
British companies have invested in Angola's energy sector, a key area for the Angolan economy.
In return, the UK is seeking to diversify its trade relations with Angola by promoting trade in goods and services in other areas.
The UK government has also supported Angola in initiatives to improve the business environment and attract more foreign investment.
Programs to support economic reform and diversification of the Angolan economy are also part of the cooperation portfolio.
