Luanda – The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Angola and Rwanda on Monday, in Kigali City, assessed the state of bilateral cooperation between the two countries focused on the decisions taken at the first session of the Joint Permanent Commission.
During the conversations, both countries agreed to work on the implementation of the recommendations from the mentioned meeting, mainly the holding of the second meeting scheduled for 2024 to take place in the Province of Luanda.
According to a press release, the talks were led by the Angolan Foreign minister, Téte António, and by the Rwandan Foreign minister, Vicente Bitura,
During the meeting they analyzed the support from Rwanda towards Angola's accession to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), to the Commonwealth as well as the country's candidacy for the Presidency of the African Union (AU) in 2025, representing the Southern Region.
Téte António and Vincent Biruta agreed also to workg hard for the holding of bilateral consultations at the highest level, preceded by technical meetings between the two ministries.
At the end of the meeting both delegations analyzed the holding of the 2nd Angola/Rwanda Business Forum, scheduled for next November in the Province of Luanda.
The legal basis for bilateral cooperation between Angola and Rwanda was made official on May 15, 2014 after the signing of the Framework Agreement on Economic, Technical-Scientific and Cultural Cooperation and the Agreement on the Creation of the Bilateral Commission.
The two countries signed on April 15, 2022 in Kigali capital city of Rwanda, nine legal diplomas, among it the agreements to avoid double taxation, extradition, mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, transfer of sentenced people, Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Agriculture and Cattle Breeding Development, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Local Administration, Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Cooperation on health sector and cooperation between the Angolan School of Administration and Public Policies and the Management Institute of Rwanda.
