Luanda - Angolan Ombudswoman, Antónia Florbela de Araújo, expressed Thursday in Luanda the intention of this institution to cooperate with the Kingdom of Norway, in matters related to human rights and protection against crimes of torture.
The intention was expressed during a meeting with the plenipotentiary ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Angola, Bjornar Dahl Hotvdt, with whom the Angolan Ombuds discussed issues related to human rights.
Florbela Araújo highlighted the role of the institution she leads, having requested support for Angola's application to join the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
Florbela Araujo spoke of the intention to constitute Angola’s Ombudsman office into a national institution of human rights and a Crimes of Torture fighting entity , similar to countries like Portugal, Spain, South Africa and Cabo Verde.
Norway's ambassador, on his turn, stressed the importance of the role of the Ombudsman, as an institution that watches over the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens.
The diplomat said he acknowledges the challenge faced by the Ombudswoman, having pledged support for the institution.
Bjornar Dahl Hotvdt mentioned that, besides issues related to human rights, Angola and Norway have strategic relations, characterized by economic diplomacy that contributes to integration of Angolan staff in the labor market.
The diplomat cited the recent visit of the Angolan President, João Lourenço, to the Kingdom of Norway as an example that served to strengthen cooperation ties between the two countries.
