Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço met on Monday with his Namibian counterpart Nangolo Mbumba in Luanda, in a behind closed doors meeting, where strengthening cooperation was the main topic.
The President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, arrived in Luanda Monday for a 48-hour working visit.
According to Angola’s Foreign Affairs Minister Téte António , Nangolo Mbumba's visit is part of the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is his first official visit outside his country since taking office.
Nangolo Mbumba was sworn in February as President of the Republic of Namibia, following the death of President Hage Geingob.
The minister said it is a courtesy visit to the Angolan President, however, since it is about the lives of two peoples and two countries, it ended up addressing common interests, with emphasis on deepening cooperation relations, which has already been the subject of meetings in Luanda at various levels and will be more reserved for the bi-national commission.
Téte Antonio explained that the bi-national commission meets with the participation of two heads of state to deal with all cooperation issues, both regional and international, and that the date for the meeting to take place in Angola, is being studied.
The minister emphasized that cooperation relations with Namibia are at the best and that he wants this trend to continue.
Téte Antonio thanked the Namibian President for reiterating the fact that whoever takes the helm of his country, the historic nature of relations and their symbolism will always be maintained.
The Namibian president’s working program includes a visit to the company Karam Indústria, a manufacturing company that produces copper, aluminum, steel and PVC materials, especially low and medium voltage electrical cables, which have been exported to Namibia.
The Republics of Angola and Namibia cooperate in several sectors namely Defense and Security, Transport, Energy and Water, Health, Oil, Tourism, Fisheries, Agriculture, Finance, Geology and Mining, among others, within the framework of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). PA/VIC/AMP
