Ondjiva - Angola and Namibia justice administration officials on Friday met in Oshakati to redefine strategies to fight human trafficking, vehicle and fuel smuggling, theft and robberies along the border between the two countries.
The information was released in a note from the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Cunene, stressing that the strategy includes measures on migration issues and other cross-border crimes.
On the occasion, the director of the Criminal Investigation Service in Cunene province, deputy commissioner Caca Wamatende, highlighted the need for greater speed in the exchange of fugitives, who, in an attempt to escape police surveillance, are detained in Namibian territory and vice versa.
Caca Wamatende also addressed the phenomenon of smuggling of vehicles from Namibia, which are sold in Angola, and requested the intervention of the Namibian Consulate in Ondjiva, in order to find the rightful owners.
On his turn, the Commander of the Oshana Region, Commissioner Zacarias Naftali Lungameni, considered it essential to share information on crimes that occur along the common border.
After the meeting, the Namibian police handed over a firearm that was stolen at the Border Guard police station in Ombadja, Cunene province and recovered in Namibia territory.
The Angolan province of Cunene shares 460 kilometres of border with the Republic of Namibia.
