Luanda - Governments of Angola and Malawi strengthened bilateral cooperation on Friday marked by the signing of general cooperation agreement on Friday (18), mainly focused on promoting partnership and trade.
Signed the agreement ministers of Foreign Affairs Téte António (Angola) and Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo (Malawi), during a ceremony attended by the Heads of State of Angola and Malawi João Lourenço and Lazarus Chakwera, respectively.
The General Cooperation Agreement covers trade, industry, tourism, defence/security, mining, energy, transport, agriculture and migration sectors.
Angolan minister Téte António told the press that the move represents a turning point in bilateral cooperation, which pave the way for specific agreements, with stress to energy and transport sectors.
The top diplomat said Malawian authorities are very interested in the Lobito Corridor, due to the rail link that this country has with the Republic of Zambia,
which borders Angola.
Malawian minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, highlighted the role of the agreements, noting that they aimed to foster the union between the two nations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Prior to the formalisation of the document, presidents João Lourenço and Lazarus Chakwera met privately at the Presidential Palace to address the issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
President Lazarus Chakwera had been in Angola since Wednesday to attended on Thursday (17) the 43rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of SADC.
